Sometimes we do things we love with people we enjoy. Sometimes we do things we enjoy and meet people we just love. This was the case when I met our Featured Wedding Dance Couple. Allow me to introduce, Dave McCann and Stephanie Story! For those of you who don't know, we held a giveaway earlier this year for a choreographed wedding dance with six private dance lessons. The contest gained attention and out of all the entries, Dave and Stephanie were our winners! I was already excited but when I read the response Stephanie posted, it was icing on the cake 🙂
Shortly after the big reveal, Stephanie and I exchanged emails about scheduling her and Dave's first dance lesson. She then shared with me the wedding song they had chosen. That's when the choreography process began. I love this part because I am listening to a song that has meaning and importance to another couple. On some level, it makes me feel that I have a connection with the couples I work with before even meeting them, which is pretty special to me.
I thought it would be interesting to show a closer look at their Wedding Dance journey and what it is like from a Bride and Groom's perspective. Dave and Stephanie agreed to share their experience with us, as well as some of their inside wedding details. Below are some of the questions I asked them.
Q. Do you have any interesting details that you would like to share about yourselves?
A. "In our free time, we love going for walks or watching Impractical Jokers!"
Q. What can you tell us about the wedding plans?
A. Our wedding is on September 10 and is pretty romantic colors, light pinks, burgundy, and grey.
Stephanie shared that her grandpa grows Dahlias which will be used throughout the entire wedding!
Engineers have moves too 🙂 Dave is an engineer and Stephanie is a teacher
Q. How did you first meet one another?
A. We first met at a party at our school, Oakland University. (in Michigan)
Q. Tell us a little about your engagement. What is your favorite memory from that day?
A. Stephanie answers "I loved how simple yet romantic it was. We were picking apples when he got down on one knee. My sister-in-law was hiding in the trees capturing it all!" Dave answers "My favorite part was when I had to repeatedly ask and pull her out of the tree to get her attention."
Q. There are so many great wedding songs. Which song did you choose for your first dance as husband and wife?
A. We chose 'Die A Happy Man' by Thomas Rhett.
Q. Does this song have special meaning to you both, how did you choose it?
A. Dave heard this song on the radio shortly after our engagement. As soon as he heard it, he knew right away he wanted it as our first dance song!
Q. Tell me a little bit about how you felt when you first learned that you were the winners of our contest.
A. Stephanie answers "I was shocked! We never win anything so I really never even thought we had a chance. I was really excited, but also very nervous because I've never taken dance." Dave answers "I laughed and assumed we would never win when she signed us up."
Q. How did you feel before and after your first lesson?
A. We were both very nervous beforehand, but once we started, we were nerve free! We've had so much fun learning this dance. Even Dave said after our first lesson, "That was actually really fun!"
This part makes me smile!
Q. When your friends and family find out that you have been taking dance lessons, what do you think they will say or ask?
A. Oh gosh, I don't know! We've only told our parents, but I don't think they even realize exactly what this dance will be! I think our friends and family will LOVE it and be completely shocked. Dave and I are pretty laid back, so I don't think anyone would expect this from us.
I cannot say enough about this couple! They were an absolute joy to work with and it was an honor to get to know them. I can't wait to attend their wedding, to watch them experience their special dance in person and be a part of this special moment in their lives. Good luck Dave and Stephanie!
Oh yeah, I guess I should also mention that we had a bit of fun during their dance lessons too!
Dave and Stephanie's wedding dance story is not over just yet. In the next article we will follow up on their big day and get to hear about their moment on the dance floor!
